Stranraer Curling Weekend

All three Midcalder curling club teams had some success at this years Bank of Scotland Corporate Curling Competition played at the North West Castle Hotel in Stranraer.
They were three groups of eight playing a schenkel system.

Midcalder 1 comprising of Robert Smellie (skip), Christine Hamilton (third), Christine Smellie (second) and Alan Crawford (lead)  missed out on a semi final place from Group A after winning there opening two games they were narrowly beaten in there third game and finished second in there group.

Midcalder 2 comprising of Stewart Barr (skip), Lesley Barr (third), Harry Macpherson (second) and Jean Carruthers (lead) also narrowly missed out in qualifying for the semi finals as best runners up. Playing in Group B, they had one win and one loss going into there final group game needing a big win to qualify. All was going to plan and Stewart even had a shot with his last stone in the sixth end for an eight. In the end they missed out by two ends to qualify and finished third in there group.

Midcalder 3 comprising of Alan Russell (skip), Andrew Brash (third), Marion Mullholland (second) and Jean Brash  (lead) were also playing in Group B. They managed to win Group B by winning all three group games. The third game was won by a draw shot challenge after the scores were tied after eight ends.
The semi final was a closely run affair, but in the end Midcalder 3 were run out of stones in the 8th end with the score finishing at 7-4.

A great time was had from all Midcalder players and supporters. Midcalder Curling Club would like to thank all the staff and fellow competitors at the North West Castle for a great weekend and Midcalder has already booked to play in next years competition.
