Russell Takes Stoddart Cup Title

Four teams were still technically in the hunt for the trophy in the final game of this season's Stoddart Cup.

Graham Young's team was one of the teams sitting one point behind the leaders, but things didn't go his way as he found themselves 5-0 after two ends against Basil Baird's team. Graham's team then won the next two ends to close the gap, but Graham's hopes faded away as Basil Baird's team won the last three and won the match 12-2.

This left three teams in the hunt, with Alan Russell's team starting at the top of the table. Everything was going according to plan, with Alan's team leading 6-2 at the halfway point against Scott Baird's team. The last match was Second placed team David Baird versus fourth placed team Stewart Barr with both teams needing to win to have any chance of winning the title. It was Stewart's team that made a fast start leading 6-0 after three ends. David's team didn't give up and went on to win the next four ends and the game 11-6. With Alan's team now needing to win, Scott's team turned the pendulum by scoring a four in the fifth end. Alan's team then went back into the lead after scoring two in the sixth end. Scott had a hit for a four in the last end, but his last shot just missed which gave Alan's team an 8-7 win and the Stoddart Cup.

Congratulations to Alan Russell, Ewan Barr, John Sinclair, and Isabel Graham for winning this season's Stoddart Cup.

Congratulations also to David Baird, Lesley Barr, Andrew Graham, and Anne Keron for winning the Stoddart Shield for being the runners-up.
