Big Ends and Tight Finishes in Torphichen Broom Game 3
Torphichen Broom League – Game 3 Review
Game 3 of the Torphichen Broom League at Midcalder Curling Club produced an entertaining night of curling, with several rinks seeing decisive swings and strong individual performances.
Rink A saw Ian Keron’s rink recover well after dropping two shots in the opening end to Basil Baird. A crucial five in the sixth end proved the turning point, allowing Keron to build a commanding lead and run out 6–3 winners. Clinical shot-making and good weight control were the hallmarks of Keron’s victory.
On Rink B, Stewart Barr delivered an impressive display against Graham Young. After a tight opening, Barr’s rink pulled away with a strong five in the sixth end and followed it up with a solid two later on, securing an 8–2 win. Consistent sweeping and well-judged draws kept Young under pressure throughout.
The closest contest of the night was on Rink C, where Colin Howden faced David Baird. Howden started strongly and maintained pressure throughout. Despite a determined response from Baird, Howden’s rink held on for a hard-fought 7–6 victory.

League Table Review
After three games, Colin Howden sits clear at the top of the Torphichen Broom League, the only skip with a 100% record. Three wins from three and a strong positive shot difference underline the consistency of his rink, which has set the early pace in the competition.
Chasing the leader are Ian Keron and Stewart Barr, both level on four points. Keron holds a slight edge on shot difference, while Barr remains firmly in contention thanks to a convincing win in Game 3. With both rinks showing flashes of high scoring, the battle for second place is shaping up nicely.
In the middle of the table, David Baird and Basil Baird are locked together on two points. Both have shown they can be competitive, but will be looking for greater consistency in the coming games to close the gap on the leaders.
At the foot of the table, Graham Young is still searching for a first win. Despite a difficult start to the league, there have been moments of promise, and with several games still to play, there is ample opportunity to climb the standings.
