Basement Battle Heat's Up In Stoddart Cup
The teams at the bottom of the league showed some fight in week five of the Stoddart Cup.
Bottom team Basil Baird got their first win of the league after defeating second placed team Bob Graham. Basil's team would twice build a lead only for Bob's team to peg them back again. Basil's team held their nerve to take a single in the last end to win 7-6 and lift them off the bottom of the league.
Alan Russell's team also got their first win of the league after defeating Stewart Barr 7-2. A low scoring start to the game saw Stewart lead 2-1 after five ends. The match swung in the sixth end when Alan's team took a four. The loss see's Stewarts team drop to the bottom of the league.
Two stand in subs with a bit of family rivalry saw an interesting final match of the evening. David Baird subbing for John Baird built a 5-0 lead over brother Scott Baird subbing for Graham Wood after four ends. Scott got on the scoreboard with a two in the sixth before losing a three in the seventh end. But a last end storm saw David's team just hang onto their lead after losing a five to win 8-7.
