The Good, The Bad And The Swan

Midcalder Curling Club were in action to defend their Swan Trophy which is a double rink competition. First up was the semi-final match against East Linton Curling Club and it was a tale of two different matches for Midcalder.
Stewart Barr, Basil Baird, Lesley Barr and John Baird were playing for Midcalder A and had a slow start as they found themselves 6-0 down after six ends before getting on the scoreboard in the seventh end when they scored a single. East Linton won the last end to win the match 8-1.
Alan Russell, Ian Keron, Graham Young and Scott Baird got off to a good start when they lead 5-2 after four ends. Needing to win by 8 points for an overall victory Midcalder B scored a 4 in the fifth end and a 3 in the last end to win their match 12-4 giving Midcalder a 13-12 overall victory over East Linton.

The final saw Midcalder taking on Corstorphine Curling Club. Both games were extremely close with Midcalder A found themselves 3-1 down after four ends, but then scored singles in the next two ends to level the match. Both teams shared singles in the last two ends to tie the match at 4-4.
Midcalder B was 4-2 down after four ends before they leveled the match in the seventh end with a 2, it all meant the match and the title would come down to the last end. Alan tapped up with his last shot to lie 2 leaving Aaron Forsythe of Corstorphine to raise their own shot into the four foot to win the match, which he did, giving Corstorphine a 10-9 win over Midcalder.
