Swan Extra End Heartache

The first round of this years Swan Trophy, saw a rematch of last season's final against Currie & Balerno. Going into the eighth and final end of both matches, Midcalder held a combined lead of 10-6. Midcalder (1) of Alan Russell, Graham Young, Bob Graham and Andrew Brash were 7-2 up playing the last end and lying three shots, when Currie & Balerno played two runbacks and chip and lie shot to take a three and the game finished 7-5. Midcalder (2) of Stewart Barr, Basil Baird, John Baird and Jean Brash were 4-3 down and lying two shots when Currie & Balerno played the final shot, which took one Midcalder stone out and moved the other to lie one. This game finished 5-3 and a combined score of ten all meant extra end had to be played. Midcalder were unable a take advantage of holding the hammer in both match and both game lost a single in the extra end for the final score of Midcalder 10 - Currie & Balerno 12.
