They were two very close games and one not so close game in this years Interclub Competition. The three invited clubs this year were Penicuik Curling Club, Livingston Curling Club and Uphall Curling Club.
Game one saw Midcalder 1 of Jim Wyllie, Stewart Barr, Harry Macpherson and Richard Brown take on Penicuik Curling Club of Walter Brown, John Glidden, Jean Lennie and Reg Dunbar. Midcalder took the early advantage in this game leading 7-2 after five ends. But Penicuik bounced back in the last two ends to tie the game at seven all.
Game three saw Midcalder 3 of Alan Russell, Christine Hamilton, Graham Wood and Harry Russell take on Uphall Curling Club of Harry Ferguson, Liz Dyer, Patrick Carnie and Jennifer McEwen. Both teams traded scores on the first four ends before Midcalder 3 stole a two in the fifth end to lead 5-3. Uphall then took the lead after taking a four in the sixth, before Midcalder 3 took a two in the last end to tie the match at seven all.
But it was in game two where the big score came from. Midcalder 2 of Basil Baird, Andrew Brash, John Sinclair and Jean Carruthers took on Livingston Curling Club of Alan Ogilvie, Jim Adens, Rona Craig and David Craig. Basil Baird had to miss his warm up exercises after just making the start of the game. But this didn't effect the team as they stormed into a 14-0 lead after 4 ends. Livingston bounced back a bit, by winning the last two ends to finish the game 14-4.
Well done to Midcalder 2 for wining the Midcalder Interclub Competition and for Penicuik, Livingston and Uphall for taking part in the years competition.
