Christmas Comes Early For Alan In Stoddart

It all came down to the last game to find out who would be Stoddart Cup Champion for 2015, with two points separating the top five teams in the league.
With Bob Graham's team sitting out the last game the league leaders had to wait and see where they would finish in the league. This left John Sinclair's team with the upper hand needing only a win or a draw to win the league. John was up against Alan Russell's team who needed to win and score 3 or more points than Graham Wood's team if they won.
John's hopes of winning the league were slowly slipping away when they lost singles in the first five ends of the game before Alan's team all but finished their hopes when they scored a 3 in the sixth end. The match ended in the seventh when Alan's team scored a single to win the game 9-0 and now have to see if Graham Wood's team could win by 6 shots.
Graham Wood had an early advantage as Graham Young's team only had three players giving them 3 extra points. Christine Hamilton stepped up to skip the game and quickly won the first two ends to lead the match 5-0. Graham Wood then replied with a 3 in the third end before Christine took control again by winning six points in the next three ends and even with Graham Wood scoring an 2 in the last end it was Graham Young's team that would win the match 11-8.
The last match of the final week games was a close game between Basil Baird and Stewart Barr with the match tied at 2-2 after four ends, Basil took the lead going into the last end when they scored a 2 to lead 4-3, but Stewart's team scored a 3 in the last end to win the match 6-4.
All this meant Alan Russell, John Baird, Ian Provan and Jean Carruthers won the Stoddart Cup in a topsy-turvy last week games. Bob Graham, Graham Russell, Aaron Forsythe and Grant Knight finished runner-up to win the Stoddart Shield.
