Stewart Pulls Christmas Bonspiel Win Out Of The Hat

Midcalder Curling Club held their Christmas Bonspiel at the weekend with six teams taking part.
The opening game saw Stewart Barr win the first three ends with singles to lead Basil Baird's team 3-0 the game then flipped when Basil's team won the next four ends with two singles and two 2's to win the match 6-3.
The second match was much the same as the first game when Christine Hamilton's team lead 4-0 over Alan Russell after three ends before Alan's team scored two 3's to lead the match 6-4. Christine's team leveled the match up again in the sixth before Alan scored a 2 in the last end to win the match 8-6.
The final match was Midcalder's young ones up against the not so young ones with the not so young skipped by Scott Baird leading David Baird's young ones 4-2 after four ends. David's team then scored a 2 followed by a 4 in the next two ends to lead the match and despite Scott scoring a single in the last end, it was David's team that won the game 8-5.
With all the results in the games weren't over as each player had to pick a bag of the advent calendar with various good and bad prizes in each bag like +2 shots or -1 shot or even a prize from Santa's bag and it did change the results for some of the matches. The biggest change was in the first match with Stewart's team won 5 more shots when Basil's team lost 3 shots resulting in Stewart's team winning 8-3. They were no change in the second match as Alan & Christine's team both receiving 2 more shots. The young and old ones must have been naughty this year as David's team lost 4 shots and Scott's team lost 3 shots.
All this left Stewart and his team of Ian Keron, Jim Wilson and Ian Provan the winners as they turned a -3 shot loss into a +5 win  and win the Christmas Bonspiel.

Christmas Bonspiel Winners L-R Jim Wilson, Ian Provan, Stewart Barr and Ian Keron
