All Smiles For Robert In Wardrop
Midcalder Curling Club played their last club game of the season with the Wardrop Bonspiel. They were a change to the format of the competition with each end scored as normal then each team scored additional points for every two stones in the house including the winning shot.
First up was the team of Scott Baird, Ian Keron, Andrew Brash & George Sinclair taking on Christine Hamilton, Stewart Barr, Jean Brash & Adam Keron and this match was the closest of the three games played with Christine having the advantage at the half-way point leading by two points. Scott's team did manage to close the gap to one point before Christine's team extended their lead and held on to win the game 19-17.
Next up was Marion Mulholland and her team of B Baird, Douglas & A Rennie taking on John Baird's team of A Ogilvie, J Wilson & J Irwin and this match was a lower scoring game with John's team leading 10-6 after four ends. The last three ends tied at 3-3 giving John's team a 13-9 win.
The last game was big scoring Robert Smellie and his team of Graham Wood, Christine Smellie & Alan Crawford taking on Bob Graham and his team of Graham Young, Lynne McEwen & Jean Carruthers and it was Robert's team that worked out the new rules to the best as his team raced to a 14-3 lead after four ends. The match continued in this vain as Bob's team were unable to close the gap as Robert's team increased their lead to win the Wardrop Bonspiel with a 23-9 victory.
