Lynne Guides Team To Wardrop Success
Midcalder were left a bit short in the Wordrop Cup Bonspiel with a lot of their Juniors playing in the Asham Under 17 Slam in Perth and Mhairi Baird away representing Scotland in the World Junior Championship in Flims, Switzerland. But this didn't stop the Bonspiel being a fun and exciting matches.
The format again this year was a everyone taking a turn as skip every two ends.
Game one saw Callum Wood taking on Ewan Barr and the match was closely poised at 4-2 after four ends. But it was Callum's team that pulled away in the last three ends to win the match 9-2.
Game two saw a mother and daughter up against each other, with Lynne McEwen holding a one point lead over Jennifer McEwen after three ends. But just like match one, Lynne's team won the remaining ends in the match to win the game 12-2.
In the last game of the Bonspiel, Stewart Barr was up against Jim Wilson. It looked like the only team with four players would win the competition after Jim's team were 7-2 up after five ends. But unlike the first two games Stewart's team closed the gap in the match, but alas, it wasn't enough as Jim's team won the game 9-7.
This left Lynne McEwen and her team of Graham Young and Harry Macpherson as overall winners with +10 shots and Callum Wood and his team of Christine Smellie and Alan Russell as runners up on +7.
Well done Lynne and her team for winning the 2014 Wardrop Cup Bonspiel.
