Mhari Leaves It Late To Win Brydie
A very close Brydie Bonspiel got Midcalder Curling Club season under way at the weekend. The bonspiel was split into three small games and it was Christine Hamilton and her team of Graham Russell, George Sinclair and Marion Mulholland that lead after two ends when they won there opening game 4-0. Scott Baird team of Ian Keron, Christine Smellie and Jean Carruthers were in second place after they won there opening game 2-0.
Christine's team extended there lead to four shots when they won there second game 2-1. Mhari Baird and her team of Graham Wood and Andrew Keron moved into a tie of second place when they beat Scott Baird's team 5-0. Alan Ogilvie's team of Callum Wood and Jennifer Russell were the other team tied on plus one point after two games when they won there second game 3-0.
Christine's title hopes ended in the final match when they lost 6-1 to Stewart Barr's team of Ian Provan, Richard Brown and Lynne McEwen. The win lifted Stewart's team up to second place overall on plus two shots and to win the Howden Shield.
This left Mhari Baird's team to take the Brydie Bonspiel after they won there final game 4-2 to finish on plus three points.
