Stewart Directs Midcalder Into Final Of Double Rink
Midcalder Curling Club were in semi-final action against Currie & Balerno Curling Club in the Directors Trophy (Double Rink).
Midcalder One was Alan Russell, Ian Keron, Graham Young and Graham Wood. The team lost a two in the first end, the next five ends were won with singles to leave Currie & Balerno leading 4-3 with two ends to go. In the seventh end Midcalder stole a two, but then lost a two in the final end to lose the game 6-5.
Midcalder Two was Stewart Barr, Basil Baird, Scott Baird and John Sinclair. Team Two also lost a two in the first end but did bounce back in the second end when they got a three. They won another three in the forth end to lead 6-3. Both teams traded threes in the next two ends before Currie & Balerno won the last two ends with singles for Midcalder Two to hold on for a 9-8 victory.
This left both teams tied with a combined score of 12 all. To decide the overall winner both team nominated a player to draw the button. Stewart Barr went first for Midcalder and drew to two feet. Currie & Balerno had to draw closer to win, but their stone slid past the distance of Midcalder's stone.
This gave Midcalder the overall victory and they now play Stray Dogs in the final on November 1st 2014.
