Jean Powers To Wardrop Cup Success

Midcalder Curling Club held their last Bonspiel of the season at Murrayfield Curling Rink on Saturday. Six teams were taking part in a 2x2x2x2 format where each player moves up a position after every two ends. Early on Callum Wood's team held the advantage as they lead Ewan Barr's team 8-1 after four ends. The other matches at the halfway point saw Jean Carruthers lead Lynne McEwen 4-1 and Sophie Sinclair was all square against Adam Keron's team.
All changed in the closing ends as teams went for the win, first of Sophie took a 6 of Adam only to lose a 4 in the next end and Sophie took a single in the last end to win the match 9-7. Callum Wood saw their lead disappear over the closing ends, Ewan won singles in the fifth & sixth ends and then a 3 in the eighth end. Callum's team did win the match as they had won a 2 in the seventh end as they ran out 10-6 winners.
It was Jean's team that had the better finish of all the teams as they won the last three ends of the match with a 4 in the fifth end followed by two singles in the last two ends to win the match over Lynne 10-1.
With the results in it was Jean Carruthers, Graham Russell and Alan Russell that won the Wardrop Cup Bonspiel on +9 shots. Runner-up was Callum Wood, Jim Wilson, John Sinclair and Graham Young on +4 shots.
