Basil Cleans Up To Win Broom
Going into the final game in this seasons Torphichen Broom League competition they were three teams that were still in the hunt to win the Broom.
Basil Baird had the advantage knowing a win would be enough to win the broom. His opposition was Stewart Barr who was in third place going into the final game. Stewart's hopes faded early on as Basil's team stormed into a 7-0 lead after two ends. The next three ends were blanked before Basil wrapped the title up with a 2 in the sixth end to win the match 9-0 and win the Torphichen Broom Title.
Graham Young had needed Basil to be beaten for his team to have a chance of winning the Broom. But things didn't go Graham's way as his team was beaten by Alan Russell team 7-4.
Although both teams in the final match couldn't win the league they were much more pressure as they were playing for the wooden spoon. Scott Baird held the early advantage when his team lead 6-0 after three ends. Bob Graham's team fought back by winning the next two ends and close the gap to 2 points before Scott won scored a 4 in the sixth end to win the match 10-4 and avoid the wooden spoon.
