Rink Championship Qualifiers
Rink Championship Qualifiers – 2 nd November 2024
Mid Calder entered to play in the Rink Championship Qualifiers at Curl Edinburgh following the club
winning the qualifier event in season 2023/24 and playing at the Final event in Forfar in March of
this year.
Mid Calder, were lucky enough to gain a bye direct to the quarter finals meaning our club were
drawn against Athelstaneford. Fielding a team of David Baird (Skip), Graham Young (Third), Dougie
Wood (Second) and Laura Barr (Lead). We had scored two shots in the first end. However
Athelstaneford recovered the deficit over ends two and three scoring a single and stealing 2 shots in
the third end. We were pushed to a single shot score in end 4 with hammer, before stealing end 5
with a score of 2 shots. We conceded a single shot in the sixth end before scoring a healthy 3 shots
in the seventh after the bell went with one stone to play, securing us the winning score of 8-4.
Advancing to the Semi-Final on the same day and retaining the same team line-up we played
Musketeers Curling Club, who had beaten Gogar Park Curling Club in the first knock-out stage, and
also beating Corstorphine in the quarter finals.
We scored 2 shots in the first. However, the Musketeers replied scoring 2 shots in the second and
stealing a single in the third. We rallied scoring a further 3 shots in the fourth, only to lose 2 shots in
the fifth. A well-played end seen us score of 3 shots in the sixth, where the Mustketeers conceded
the game with a final score of 9-5.
Mid Calder advance to the qualifiers final where they will meet Currie & Balerno on Sat. 23 rd Nov
2024 at 3pm.
Looking beyond the qualification stages, having reached the semi-final stages, Mid Calder have again
qualified to the Rink Championship finals event. Which will be held at The Dewars Centre, Perth 28 th
Feb-2 nd Mar 2025. A pool of 6 players can be used for the finals event, the caveat being that they
