Just One End!!!!!
Midcalder Curling Club couldn't have come any closer to defending the Mid Lothian Province Bonspiel. After three good wins the only thing that separated Midcalder was one end!
The first game of the day for Midcalder was at 10am against Pentland Ladies. Playing for Midcalder was James Baird, John Baird, Christine Hamilton and Christine Smellie. The team got Midcalder off to a great start with a 10-3 win.
The second game was at 2pm and was against Bank of Scotland. Playing for Midcalder were Basil Baird, Graham Young, Andrew Brash and John Sinclair. The team continued the winning form as they won 14-3.
The last game of the day was at 6pm and was against Club 37. Playing for Midcalder was Stewart Barr, Alan Russell, Scott Baird and Alan Graham. The team finished off a good day with a 13-2 win. This gave Midcalder a total of plus 29 shots and an average of 9.6 shots.
With the target set by Midcalder, Currie & Balerno curling club had to win by 13 shots in the last session of the day. Going into the last end of their match Currie & Balerno still needed three to tie and four to win. John Stevenson had to hit & lie with his last stone of the game to tie with Midcalder and he duly did.
This meant both clubs were tied with the same average score, so a count back had to be done. Midcalder had won 14 ends for the three match's and Currie & Balerno had won 15 ends.
This meant Currie & Balerno win the Mid Lothian Province Bonspiel. Well done to them and to all of the 320 curlers that took part during the day.
