British Heart Foundation Bonspiel

Friday 13 ^th February – the closest Friday to St Valentine’s day – was the British Heart Foundation Bonspiel at Murrayfield.

As usual Mid Calder entered a team – Jim Wyllie, Harry Macpherson, Jim Wilson and Jean Carruthers, - which was drawn against Edinburgh CC.

The first four ends were tight, but Mid Calder edged ahead at 4-3. End 5 looked close again until the last stone. Although Mid Calder were lying two, due to the two Edinburgh CC stones in the house, there were other stones in the house. Skip Jim played a double take out on the Edinburgh stones to leave Mid Calder with a 7.  11-3, eight up,  with 3 ends to go. Looking comfortable.  

Thereafter Mid Calder went off the boil and Edinburgh CC started to make all their shots.

Edinburgh won all three remaining ends with a final score of 11-9.

The Bonspiel was won by the VETS with 12 up. So we had to give up the trophy from last year and look forward to next year.  However, Jim Wilson and Jean Carruthers did win prizes in the raffle. Nearly £600 was raised for the BHF.
