Midcalder Win The Glenfarclas Mid Lothian Province League

Midcalder Curling Club became Glenfarclas Division 1 Mid Lothian Province League Champions after a topsy-turvy last day. Going into the last league game Midcalder were tied with Musketeers Curling Club on ten points and only separated by 2 ends. Playing for Midcalder on the night were Alan Russell, Graham Young, Scott Baird and George Sinclair.
Midcalder was up against Corstorphine Curling Club who still had an outside chance of winning the league. It was Midcalder that got off to the better start after scoring a 3 in the second end and then stealing a 3 in the third end to lead the match 6-1. With Gogar Park Curling Club beating Musketeers, it all looked good for Midcalder until they lost a 2 in the fourth end and then a 4 in the fifth end to go 7-6 behind. They regrouped and took a 3 in the sixth end only to lose a 2 in the seventh for the match to be tied at 9-9. Midcalder knew they needed to win the last end as Gogar Park had beaten Musketeers and with two Midcalder shots touching the button they were looking good. Corstorphine second last shot tapped one off their shots closer to cut Midcalder down to a single shot. Midcalder then guarded and when Corstorphine's last shot wrecked of the guard, Midcalder had won the match 10-9 to win the Glenfarclas Mid Lothian League.
Midcalder will now play Musketeers on the 17th March at 5-15pm to see which team will represent Mid Lothian at the Province Finals.
