No Big Heroics As Russell Defends Stoddart Cup
Going into the final game in the 2016 Stoddart Cup three teams still had the chance of winning the title and three teams were fighting it out for the wooden spoon.
Alan Russell and his team of Alan Ogilvie, Harry Macpherson and Anne Baird could only sit and watch to see if Graham Wood or Andrew Brash could win by 15 or 17 shots respectively to overtake Alan in the league.
Graham Wood's hopes faded away when his team fell 8-0 down after three ends against Stewart Barr and with the last four ends being won with singles, Graham Wood's hopes ended and Stewart Barr 10-2 win saved himself from the wooden spoon to finish fifth in the league.
Andrew Brash got off to a good start to lead 4-1 after four ends before Basil Baird closed the gap by winning the next two ends. Andrew did win the last end and with three extra points for Basil's team having only three players. Andrew won the game 9-4 which brought them level on points with Alan in the league but 11 shots shy.
The last match saw the final two teams that didn't want to win the wooden spoon. John Sinclair raced into a 6-0 lead after four ends and although Bob Graham won two of the last three ends it wasn't enough as John won the game 7-4 leaving Bob with the wooden spoon.
