Midcalder Curling Club Juniors and Ladies had their annual challenge matches. With some grudge matches from last season and some family battles.
Both match were thrilling to watch and we'll start with the Junior match which saw David Baird, Sophie Sinclair, George Sinclair and Lisa Barr take on James Baird, Rebecca Baird, Callum Wood and Ewan Barr.
With the first end being blanked, David Baird's team took singles in the next three ends to lead 3-0. James Baird's team bounced back with a four in the fifth end to take the lead going into the last end. In the last end James Baird had a double takeout with his last shot to lie one. David was then able to hit that shot out to lie three and win the game 6-3.
The Ladies match saw Christine Hamilton, Christine Smellie, Jean Brash and Lynne McEwen take on Marion Mullholland, Lesley Barr, Jean Carruthers and Jennifer McEwen. A four in the first end for Christine Hamilton's team set the pattern for the match. With lots of good shots being played by both teams, It was always Christine's team that played the big shots when required and ran out 10-3 winners.
