Alan & Rebecca Take Buchanan Pairs Title
Midcalder Curling Club held their Buchanan Pairs Trophy competition at Forfar Indoor Sports Centre and yet again and it was another successful staging of the contest. The trophy was played in the same format as last season's contest with ten teams split into two groups playing two shots each in three end games. The winners of both groups would play each other to find the 2015 Champions and second in each group would play for third and fourth.
Group A saw Alan Russell and Rebecca Baird top the group with three wins and one draw, qualifying them for the final. Second was Graham Wood and Ewan Barr who had three wins and one loss. Last seasons defending champion skip Scott Baird finished bottom without a win in Group A.
Group B saw the other half of last season's Champions do much better and reach the final for the second year in a row. John Sinclair was teamed up with Jim Wilson this year and qualified as group winners after winning their first three games and only losing their last game to David Baird and Jean Carruthers who would come runner-up in the group by shots difference with two wins and two defeats.
Graham Wood and Ewan Barr won the consolation match after defeating David Baird and Jean Carruthers 3-1 in the match.
In a four end final, John Sinclair had a hit for a 4 in the first end but his stone drew too much and gave Alan & Rebecca a steal of 1. John & Jim bounced back in the second end with a draw for a 2 to take the lead. Alan & Rebecca did the same in the third end, drawing for a 2 to take the lead back again going into the last end. In the last end, Alan drew his last shot into the top four of the house to lie 3 shots leaving John having to hit and hope to take the match to an extra end. Unforchanatly he only managed to remove 2 of the shots leaving Alan & Rebecca stone lying shot and give them a 4-2 victory.
