Russell Goes Top Of Torphichen Broom
The top two teams found themselves up against each other in game 4 of the Torphichen Broom. League leaders Graham Young was up against Alan Russell and in a closely fought game, the first three ends were blanked before Graham's team took a 2 in the fourth end. The reply from Alan's team was quick, they won a 3 in the 5th end and then stole a 3 in the 6th and with the 7th end being blanked, it was Alan's team that top the table with a 6-2 win.
Ewan Hamilton's team ended their hopes of winning the Broom after losing to Bob Graham. Bob's team lead 3-0 after four ends, before they lost the lead in one end after Ewan's team skipped by Alan Ogilvie won a 4 in the 5th. It was Bob's team that came through in the last end with a 2 to win the match 5-4.
In the final match of the week, Stewart Barr was up against Basil Baird and it was Basil's team that took the early advantage with a 2 in the 2nd end. Stewarts team bounced back with a 3 in the 3rd and a 2 in the 4th end. The next two ends were blanked before Basil won a 2 to close the gap to 1 point. Stewart's team held on in the last end when they blanked the end and win the match 5-4.
