No Ugly Duckling As Midcalder Win Swan

Midcalder Curling Club were in the winners circle again after success in the Swan Trophy. Playing for Midcalder on the day were.
Midcalder One - Stewart Barr, Ian Keron, Graham Young and Bob Graham.
Midcalder Two - Basil Baird, David Baird, Alan Russell and Scott Baird.
The Swan Trophy is a double rink competition with both scores being combined to give the overall winner. First game of the day was the semi-final match against Penicuik Curling Club.  Midcalder One blow hot and cold in this match. Thankfully they were hot in the second end when they won a 2  and the seventh end when they won a 5. That would be enough to win their game 7-5 after Penicuik One scored five singles.
Midcalder Two had a close game until an 4 in the sixth end pushed them clear of Penicuik Two and held on after that to win the match 10-5.
The combined score gave Midcalder an 17-10 win over Penicuik.
Midcalder was up against Oxenfoord Curling Club in the final. Midcalder One had to wait till the fifth end to lead this match for the fist time after they scored a 3 to lead 5-3. Oxenfoord took singles in the next two ends to level the match again, but Stewart's team held on after scoring a 2 in the last end to win the match 7-5.
Midcalder Two had another close game as they lead 4-3 at the halfway point of their match. Oxenfoord then took a 2 in the fifth end to lead again, but another strong finish from Basil's team saw them come through to win the match 9-6.
This gave Midcalder Curling Club a winning total score of 16-11 to win the Swan Trophy.
Steven  Wilson was on hand from John Swan Limited to present Midcalder Curling Club with the prize which is the oldest sponsored curling tournament in the world.
